Matcha is a finely stone-ground powder made from shade-grown green tea leaves (Camellia sinensis). Unlike steeped green tea where leaves are discarded, matcha is whisked directly into water so you consume the whole leaf — delivering far more antioxidants, chlorophyll, L-theanine, and caffeine per serving.

What are the health benefits of matcha?

Matcha is rich in catechins (especially EGCG), powerful antioxidants linked to reduced inflammation and heart health. It provides steady, calm energy from the combination of caffeine and L-theanine. Regular consumption has been associated with improved focus, enhanced metabolism, gut health support, and a calmer stress response.

How does matcha compare to coffee?

Matcha has roughly half the caffeine of coffee (60–80mg vs 90–120mg per serving), but L-theanine moderates how your body absorbs it — resulting in sustained energy and sharp focus without the jitters, anxiety, or crash that coffee can cause. Matcha also has an alkaline pH, making it gentler on the stomach.

How do I make a matcha latte at home?

Sift 1–2 teaspoons of culinary grade matcha into a cup or bowl. Add 2 oz of hot water (175°F / 80°C) and whisk vigorously until smooth and frothy. Steam or froth 6–8 oz of your preferred milk (oat, almond, or whole all work well) and pour over the matcha. Sweeten to taste with honey, maple syrup, or simple syrup.
