An ube matcha latte is a creamy and colorful beverage that marries the lavender-purple hues of ube (purple yam) with the calming and verdant tones of matcha green tea. This combination creates a harmonious blend of earthy and slightly nutty flavors from the ube, and the floral and earthy notes of the matcha.
Ingredients
-
1 teaspoon matcha powder
-
1 tablespoon ube powder or ube jam/puree
-
1 cup milk (dairy or non-dairy)
-
Ice
-
Sweetener of your choice (e.g., honey, sugar, agave syrup), to taste
-
Hot water
Directions
If you're using ube powder, mix it with a small amount of water to create a paste. If you're using ube jam or puree, measure out about 1 tablespoon.
If desired, add your preferred sweetener to the ube paste or ube jam. Adjust the sweetness to your taste.
In a separate bowl, whisk the matcha powder with a small amount of hot water (about 2 tablespoons) until it's smooth and frothy. This step is essential for avoiding clumps in your latte.
In a cup, add ice and the ube paste/jam at the bottom.
Slowly pour the milk over the ube paste in the cup.
Gently pour the prepared matcha over the milk. The matcha should sit on top of the milk, creating a layered effect.
Use a spoon to gently stir the layers of ube and matcha together before sipping.
